Four major arts festivals are held on campus each year. These include the Time of the Writer; Poetry Africa; an international film festival; and Jomba, a contemporary dance festival. To find out more about these explore the Centre for Creative Arts site.

Durban has two historic, independent bookshops, one of which, Adams Campus Bookshop, is located on Howard College campus, campus@adamsbooks.co.za For Africana and selected political economy and left-wing publications you can visit Ike's Books and Collectibles, situated at 48a Florida Road, or email them at ikesbooks@iafrica.com

Durban is  ideally located for the pursuit of outdoor activities. Some of the most popular activities include: sailing, diving, surfing and year-round swimming. You'll find beaches, game reserves and mountains all within a short drive from the city.
