How to Apply

The closing date for applications will be 31 May  (for registration in Semester 2 of that year) and 31 October  (for registration in Semester 1 of the following year). While applications are welcome throughout the year, applicants who send in their applications before these dates will only receive a letter indicating the outcome in June and November of the year they apply.

Application Procedure

For the specific procedure of how to apply, please download the 'Resource' document at the end of this page, which also includes guidelines for writing a two-page proposal which makes up part of your application.

Please note that, apart from the academic strength of the proposal, two other factors will guide the School’s decision to place prospective applicants into the formal application process. These considerations are:

Capacity constraints: this relates to the availability of an appropriate supervisor within the full time academic staff at the time of application.

Theme/topic of research: the proposed thesis should be in a research area where expertise resides within the full time academic staff.
