The University of KwaZulu-Natal has announced that it is offering fee remission for full time PhD candidates registering for the first time. (See Resource below for further details). However we wish to emphasise that that acceptance into our School still depends upon 1) the appropriateness of the topic 2) the availability of a supervisor and 3) marks acquired in previous degrees./p>
2. DST/NRF Chair Bursaries
There are two bursaries for Master's study and one bursary for doctoral study attached to the DST/NRF Research Chair in Economic Development, held by Professor Posel. Students who receive these bursaries will work on a dissertation topic aligned with the focus areas of the Chair and they will be supervised by Professor Posel. To be eligible to apply:
PhD applicants must have a Masters degree with at least an upper second (above 70% or equivalent).
Master's applicants must have an honours degree or equivalent with at least a lower second (above 65% or equivalent).
Bursary applications should consist of:
- A letter of motivation.
- A summary research proposal of 2 pages (PhD only).
- A C.V.
- Full academic records.
- The contact details of two academic referees.
In addition to the bursary, successful applicants will also receive support for field work and conference attendance.
