Cities, Space and Development - Projects
Chance to Sustain
Funded by the European Union, this project will undertake action research in partnership with urban communities and local governments globally, across ten cities.
It focuses on five themes:
The role of large-scale projects in shaping sustainability in cities
Informal settlement upgrading
Environmental risk assessment (water and energy)
Participatory spatial knowledge production in infrastructure planning
A primary focus of the four-year study will be on generating quality research and pushing knowledge boundaries around sustainability planning in cities which should feed meaningfully into policy, and be aligned with work in the eThekwini municipality.
The project envisages action research with urban stakeholders (communities and local government) across 10 cities:
Durban, S. Africa
Cape Town, S. Africa
Lima Metropolitana, Peru
Belo Horizonte, Brazil
