This International Community-University Research Alliance research project proposes to build direct, international partnerships for collaborative research and knowledge building in the field of global and regional local government collaboration for sustainable community development. The project will led by the Centre for Sustainable Community Development at Simon Fraser University in Canada, in partnership with ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability and the Instituto Tecnico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) in Mexico.  The project will also rely on a research team of academic, NGO, and local government participants in Canada, Mexico, Bolivia, the Philippines, and South Africa.  A project planning grant has been secured (May 2008).  This will be used to develop a comprehensive proposal between the participants for submission to the funders.
