Environmental and Development Studies [Credits: 16] Print

Aim: To examine social, ecological and spatial systems in relation to environment and development issues.
Description: The module provides an introduction to the history of environmentalism and sustainability and then focuses on the power relations that result in the elevation or marginalization of environmental problems or issues. It considers tools (in the broadest sense) of environmental management, deliberative decision making in environmental governance and the relationship between social and ecological systems. Finally it explores why a critical understanding of the relations between society, space and environment is fundamental to policy making for environment and development and sustainability.
Module Facilitator: Ms Catherine Sutherland
