Aim: To train students to become independent researchers on the analysis of migration and urbanisationdata and to understand their role on population dynamics. Description: The definition of concepts and sources of migration data; Estimation of migration and urbanisation indicators; Factors affecting migration: push and pull factors; causes and consequences ofurbanisation; policies on migration and urbanisation; migration and urbanisation in South Africa includinglabour migration; international migration. Prerequisites: Introduction to Population and Development; and Demographic Methods 1 Assessment: Two short essays and one long essay.
